Want to make a difference in the world and work on real life projects in an international environment? Apply for an internship at CEW, the applied research hub for advanced water technology.
The use of chemicals in the treatment of cooling water will come under increased scrutiny in the coming years. According to a European guideline (BREF), from 2027 on, no more traditional chemicals are allowed to be used in cooling water. These chemicals are necessary because cooling water is subject to three types of problems: Scaling, biofouling and corrosion. Many alternative technologies using either ‘green chemistry’ or otherwise exist, but for end-users of cooling towers it is difficult to decide which technology to test, as their systems are usually quite sensitive to perturbations.
The goal in this project is to develop testing protocols to be able to compare different conditioning
technologies in all the different variable conditions of cooling towers used in industry
